Blood Donation at CNTS Dakar, May25-African Liberation Day

African Liberation Day, also known as Africa Day, is an annual global event recognized since 1963 to celebrate the determination of the peoples of Africa to free themselves from foreign domination and exploitation.

Since 2017, Africans Rising has called on its members in Africa and in the Diaspora to mobilize in commemoration of African Liberation Day. In 2021, Africans Rising celebrated the annual holiday under theme “Pan-Africanism in the 21st Century: Our Rights, Our Health, Our Future.” and Youth Meeting joined the mobilization with a number of passionate volunteers by organizing a Blood Donation in Dakar, Senegal at the national blood transfusion center on May 25.

The main goals of this activity were:

  • Collect 100 bags of blood

  • Discuss Pan-Africanism

  • Raise awareness about the importance of donating blood

Youth Meeting organized this event to also address the need for blood in the area. According to the blood transfusion center, every year women giving birth, people with anemia and accident victims die because there is a lack of blood in the hospitals.

At the end of the activity, 84 blood bags were collected. The administration and the staff of the center were satisfied and gratified with the activity and the outcome. This activity will contribute to increasing the blood reserve in the local community and reducing mortality rates due to the lack of blood supply for persons in need.
